Timeline
In 1913 William Stanley Jr. created a bottle of Stanley as a result of his work with transformers, where he discovered that the welding process he used could be used to isolate vacuum bottles with steel instead of glass.
In 1915 William Stanley began mass producing Stanley bottles. He acquired an empty building, renovated and equipped with a machine for the production of insulated pitchers, beverage servers, and decanters of table decks.
In 1916, William Stanley died at the age of 57. A New York City investment firm acquired an operation and hired a mechanical engineer, Harry Badger, as General Manager who continues to create and develop new products that expand the product line.
In 1921, Landers, Frary & amp; Clark (L.F & amp; C) from New Britain, Connecticut (a household appliance manufacturer) buys Stanley Insulating Company and adds Stanley lines to their devices and hardware.
In 1933, the entire Stanley operation moved from Great Barrington, Massachusetts to the L.F & amp; C in New Britain, Connecticut. During this time, Harry Badger became Chief Product Research and Manufacturing Engineer and in the following years he continued to develop and add more products to the Stanley line.
In 1949 Harry Badger retired and John Eza became Chief Product Research and Manufacturing Engineer. From 1949 to 1965, fifteen new products were added and the Stanley containers were now used by airlines, railways, seawalls, hospitals, and mass feeding agencies.
In 1953, Pint Quart and two Quart bottles were modified to utilize common cups, collars and plugs.
On March 30, 1961, there was a tender offer to acquire L & C by J. B. Williams Company, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer. In six weeks J. B. Williams owns 80% of the approximately 404,000 shares outstanding.
In 1965, Aladdin acquired the Universal Stanley Division of J. B. Williams Company, which made the Stanley thermos bottle in Nashville, Tennessee. All of Stanley's operations were transferred to Nashville and in 1966 Aladdin Stanley's bottle was first delivered.
In 1968 the insulated cups and threaded plugs were designed and manufactured to provide a reduction in production costs and operating equipment.
In 1976, a shorter two-liter Stanley bottle was introduced. In 1988, the guarantee grip was replaced with a side handle. In the mid-1980s a side grip was also introduced in a one-liter bottle. During this time a 24oz wide mouth bottle with insulated cups was also produced.
In 2002, Stanley was purchased by Seattle, WA based on Pacific Market International (PMI). Stanley's manufacturing facility was later moved to China.
