Amosan is an oral antiseptic. In 2014, Vintage Brands Limited began manufacturing and selling an oral antiseptic rinse containing 68.635% (b/b) of Sodium Perborate under the brand name Amosan. Until 2010, Amosan is an oral wound cleanser manufactured in Belgium and sold under the Oral-B brand, owned by Procter & amp; Gambling after Gillette recently acquired (2005). It is used to assist in prevention, as well as accelerate recovery from canker sores, denture irritation, orthodontic irritation, and oral injuries or after dental procedures. It is distributed in powder form which requires reconstitution with warm water, after which it is used as a mouthwash. These are usually packed in 1.7g envelopes.
A recent double-blind crossover study shows that hydrogen peroxide, released during the use of this product, can prevent or inhibit colonization and anaerobic bacteria, such as those who inhabit oral injuries.
A similar product, if not identical, is also produced under the Oral-B brand, called Bocasan once distributed in the UK, but appears to have been discontinued sometime after 2003.
Vintage Brands Limited began manufacturing and selling Amosan Oral Antiseptic Rinse in 2014 because many consumers are disappointed because it is no longer available. Product review pages in Amazon and public comment forums elsewhere show a high degree of frustration with discontinuation by users who can not find effective alternative treatments.
In April 2012, it was reported that Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada has produced a comparable product under their home brand: 'Oral Life Wound Cleanser'. Rexall also has its own home brand.
