Controversy

In the mid-1980s, Alex Langsam, owner of Britannia Hotel Group, acquired â € Å"Fire Station Road Londonâ € Class II * in Manchester. Proposals have been made to be redeveloped into hotels and offices, but the plan has been delayed. In 2006 it was placed on the UK's "risky" historical heritage list. City council has tried to buy the building by force but on 29 November 2011, it was rejected.

In 2005 and 2006, the Grand Hotel in Scarborough and Adelphi was investigated by the BBC about theft and cleanliness.

In 2007 the Britannia hotel in Stockport was listed on TripAdvisor as one of the dirtiest hotels in the UK. While others have been prosecuted, for example Coventry and Britannia Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool. In November 2015, Liverpool Echo investigated guest complaints about Adelphi. In June 2017, Adelphi was prosecuted for breach of food safety and hygiene regulations. Further issues with Adelphi have been reported since then.

  • In 2011 Britannia won the category of 'Group-Friendly Group or Group of Hotels' in the Travel Awards Group.
  • In 2013 Pontins was awarded the UKCSI Award for the Most Improved Organization at the UK Customer Satisfaction Award 2013. Together with Butlins and Expedia, Pontins continued this success by increasing their score by more than one point in the UK UK Customer Service Survey.
  • By Where? Britannia Hotels got the lowest customer satisfaction score from the UK hotel chain in 2013 and 2014, with a score of 33% in 2014.
