Daley was born in Plymouth, Devon, England, son of Debbie (nÃÆ' à © e Selvester) and Robert Daley. He has two brothers - William who is three years younger, and Ben is five years younger. Their father, Robert, died of a brain tumor on May 27, 2011, aged 40 years. Early dive heroes are Canadian divers Alexandre Despatie, who won gold at the 1998 Commonwealth Games at the age of 13, and British diver Leon Taylor, who later guided him. Daley was found by a coach, taking part in regular dive lessons, and placed in a competitive squad in September 2002. His first competition was the Novice National Championship in April 2003 where he won a medal in the 8/9 year boy category. In September 2003, he took part in an invitation event in Southampton where he won 1m, 3m and platform events, and first made his mark on a wider audience. Daley won his age group at the British Championships in a 1m jump, a 3m jumpboard, and platforms in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
In June 2004, a month after his tenth birthday, he won a platform competition in the National Junior group (under 18 years), making him the youngest winner of the event. In 2005 Daley competed as a guest competitor in the Australian Elite Junior Nationals and placed first on the platform and second on the springboard 3 m at the 14-15 year age group show. He also competed in the 14-15 category at Aachen Junior International 2005, placing both on the platform and third on the 3m stepping board. He met the qualification standard for the 2006 Commonwealth Games, but was not selected for the England team because of his age. In 2006, he was a British under-18 champion in platform and 3m leap, and he finished second in the 10m platform at the 2007 Senior English Championships, held in December 2006.
Education
From the age of 11 to 14 Daley attends Eggbuckland Community College. At 13 he became a supporter of the celebrity ChildLine, a children's support channel run by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), and at that time it was revealed that he had been persecuted eighteen months earlier. In April 2009, Daley was accused to the local premier newspaper of The Herald that he had been bullied at school since the Olympics, and his father told the BBC that he had withdrawn it temporarily from the school because his response to the problem was ineffective. Daley was praised in the media for talking about his problem.
Daley was offered a full scholarship to go to Brighton College's independent school, but his father rejected him for being away from home, and entered negotiations with Plymouth College, the local independent school, which had offered him "a very significant scholarship". A few weeks later it was confirmed that Daley had signed up for Plymouth College.
Daley takes his GCSE in small batches to fit his diving commitments. He persuaded supermodel Kate Moss to pose for the original portrait recreation by David Hockney, as part of a GCSE photography project that created great artwork, having met him on a photo shoot for the Italian version of Vogue. Daley earns eight A * grades and one A in his GCSE.
In 2012, Daley completed two years of A-level studies in math, Spanish and photography. Daley decided not to attend the International Baccalaalureate course due to the pressures he faced in preparation for the 2012 Olympics. He received A * on his A-level Photography, and A on A-level Spanish and Mathematics.

Competing with persistent thumb injuries, Daley won a silver medal with Synchro's Callum Johnstone partner in a 10m synchronized final-dive.
Then in 2007, he won a senior platform title at the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) National Championships, a national championship for British divers. In 2007 he also started competing in the international Grand Division (FINA) diving circuit in the Grand Prix and World Series, twice finishing fourth in individual competitions.
2008
In January 2008, Daley won a 10m platform event at the British Championships and became the youngest winner of a 10m UK senior title. He also won the 10m platform synchronization title with new partner Blake Aldridge.
Two weeks later, Daley won his first medal at the FINA circuit, winning bronzes in individual and silver competitions in synchro at the Madrid Grand Prix. Daley and Aldridge won bronzes in sync at the FINA Diving World Cup 2008. Their score is a British record and Daley became the youngest men's medalist in the world diving event. Daley occupies the seventh position in the individual competition. In March 2008, Daley became the youngest person to win a gold medal at the European Championships, held in Eindhoven. The youngest ever winner was a Scottish swimmer Ian Black, who won European gold in 1958 at the age of 17.
Daley qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics in an individual 10m dive competition and, after retiring from 2004 silver medalist Leon Taylor, in a 10m platform synchronization competition. Some in the British media reported that in competing he would become the youngest British Olympian, until it was confirmed that Ken Lester, cox for the oar pair at the 1960 Olympics, was 13 and 144 days old at the time.. In a synced 10m Olympic platform competition, they are in eighth position, while in individual 10m platform competition he finished seventh.
A month after his performance at the Olympics, Daley participated in the FINA Junior World Championship for the first time (too young to enter earlier). He finished second in the "B" competition category platform (for boys 14 and 15 years old) with 549.60 points, between Qiu Bo China (551.85 points) and Wu Dongliang (474.00 points). He was second in a 3-meter jump competition in the same category with 485.25 points, sandwiched between two Chinese divers, Wu Dongliang (510.25 points) and Wang Peng (470.40 points).
Daley won the Young Personality Personality Award BBC 2007. He is considered a medal candidate for the 2012 Olympics in London from now on, and is one of the British Olympic athletes tracked for years ahead of London 2012 by the BBC television series Olympic Dreams .
2009
In February 2009, Daley retained his 10m British championship respectively, setting a personal best score competition of 517.55 points, 133.45 points ahead of second-placed diver. He can not keep his synced 10m title, because his diving partner, Blake Aldridge, has been hurt in a fight at the nightclub a few days before the championship and can not dive. In March 2009 he improved his best quality to 540.70 in third on the Diving World Series event in China, and the following month he increased it to 540.85 while finishing second in the World Series event in Sheffield.
During the Olympics Daley quarreled with the dive partner Blake Aldridge when the latter called his mother in between rounds. When Aldridge missed the British Championships because of an injury he suffered in the nightclub incident, Daley's father said he wanted his son to have a different dive partner. In April 2009 he began diving with Max Brick, who is two years older than him, compared with a twelve-year gap with Aldridge. The pair earned a silver medal in the 10m synchronized event in Fort Lauderdale on May 8, 2009. Daley won an individual event in the new best personal 554.90, scoring a perfect set of seven 10s for one of his dives.
In the 2009 FINA World Championships, held in Rome, Daley unexpectedly won an individual platform title despite a lower tariff, with a score of 539.85 points, when his opponents made a bad final dive - Qiu Bo finished at 532.20 points, Zhou Luxin at 530.55. In the 10m platform synchronization event at World Championships, Daley and Brick finished in 9th place after a series of dives inconsistent by the new couple.
2010
At the British Championships championship in February 2010 each 10 m, Daley launched his 5255B diving (two-and-a-half-pointed backs, one-and-a-half bends, with a spear) in the competition for the first time, giving him 3.6 tariff dives (minus 3.8 in FINAs' September 2009 DD table). In this competition Daley finished in second place, 40.05 points behind Peter Waterfield.
At the 2010 FINA Diving World Series event in Qingdao 10m individual competition, Daley showed off two new dives and finished in 4th place, 520.35 points (his best score of the year).
In April 2010 the first FINA Diving World Series held in Veracruz, Mexico, Daley failed to qualify for the final round of individual 10m competitions. The second event was held at the same venue three days later to replace the canceled Sheffield DWS event due to Iceland's Eyjafjallaj̮'̦kull Iceland volcano eruption. Daley finished in fourth place, with a score of 519.70 points - the second highest score of the season (just 0.8 points from bronze).
In August 2010, Daley attended the European Championships in Budapest, Hungary, intending to retain his personal 10m title. However, the injury to his triceps muscle in the 10m synchronous competition forced his withdrawal from synchronous and individual 10m competitions, and put his participation in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in the next two weeks in doubt. He then announced that Daley would be diving in a 3m jump but not on the 10m platform. Daley took part in the 3m jumping surf competition and finished in 9th place.
On October 12, 2010, Daley attended the Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi, India. He and his teammate Max Brick won the gold medal for the 10m Synchronized Platform Competition. The next day he also won gold in the 10m Individual Platform competition.

2011
For the 2011 season, Daley is paired in a competition harmonized with 2004 Athens Olympic silver medalist Peter Waterfield in a continuing effort of the British Swimming to find the best sync pair for the 2012 Olympics. In the 2011 National Cup, the British Championships are held at the Southern Swimming and Diving Center on January 28-30 and Daley was second in the 3m jumping competition behind Jack Laugher. With Waterfield, it won a 10m platform sync competition. The next day, Waterfield beat Daley to the title of an individual 10m platform for the second year in a row, with 494.25 points to 472.35, with Max Brick third with 399.80.
In the 2011 World Championships, held in Shanghai, China, he was re-paired with Waterfield in a 10m synchronization event. In the week before Waterfield competition was exposed to a flu-like illness for five days, and as a result they finished in sixth place. In individual events, Daley finished in fifth place at 505.10 points, behind Qiu Bo (585.45), David Boudia (544.25), Sascha Klein (534.50), and Victor Minibaev (527.50).
On July 27, 2011, Daley made his first dive at the newly built Olympic Park Aquatics Center in London, marking a one-year countdown until the game begins. It was broadcast live on BBC One and when interviewed he said "Marking a year to go, by diving at the Aquatics Center is a tremendous honor." Just a few years ago, this was a distant dream. The fact that I qualified on the weekend and I'm doing the first dive is a complete privilege.I can not wait for next year and honor to represent Team GB. "
2012
In the 2012 season, thumb injuries forced Daley's withdrawal from the National Cup a few days before the competition (10m platform title won by Max Brick). In February 2012, British Diving Performance Director Alexei Evangulov criticized Daley's work ethic, stating that he was afraid of Daley's media and commercial activities harming his training for the Olympics - a comment that seemed to be supported when Daley and Pete Waterfield could only finish 7th in a 10m synchronization competition at the FINA show World Cup held at the London Aquatics Center.
After a clear meeting between Daley, Evangulov and Daley representatives, Daley participated in the FINA Diving World Series 2012. In the first event held in Dubai, Daley and Waterfield finished fourth in the 10m synchro event, while Daley won silver in the event 10m individual. In an event held in Beijing a week later, Daley and Waterfield won a silver medal in a 10m synchronization event, while in individual shows Daley won silver and Waterfield bronze. Three weeks later, in Moscow, Daley won silver in the individual arena, while the pair finished fifth in sync. In a DWS meeting later this year, in Tijuana, Mexico, Daley won gold in individual platform events, and the couple with Waterfield won bronze in the synchronization event, although the Chinese did not compete in this event at this meeting. During the entire 2012 Diving World Series, Daley and Daley/Waterfield in pairs won individual competition and a total 10 meter synchronization.
In April 2012, Daley won the British elite junior 10 meters by 140 points at Plymouth Life Center.
In May 2012, Daley reclaimed the European platform 10 meter title when he won gold in the Eindhoven championship with a score of 565.05 points, 49.65 ahead of Victor Minibaev in silver position.

In an individual 10m championship, Daley reclaimed the title for the first time since 2009 with a score of 547.60, ahead of Peter Waterfield at 452.80 and James Denny at 390.20.
Olympics
In the UK, Daley has long been considered one of the "poster boys" of the 2012 Summer Olympics, (literally - an 80-foot banner depicting himself adorning John Lewis's department store in Cardiff, while a 40-foot banner) woman, Jessica Ennis the heptathlete, is in a branch of the Sheffield shop.)
It is hoped that the men's 10m aligned event, on the first Monday of the Olympics, will provide Daley and Waterfield with a chance to provide Tim GB's first medal at the Olympics. However, while the pair led the competition after three dives, backing 3 1/2 bad downslope with tuck in the fourth round kept them out of disagreement and they ended the competition in fourth place with 454.65 points, behind Chinese pair Cao Yuan and Zhang Yanquan at 486.78 points, Mexican pair IvÃÆ'án GarcÃÆ'a and GermÃÆ'án SÃÆ'ánchez at 468.90 points, and US pair David Boudia and Nicholas McCrory at 463.47 points. After this disappointment, there was controversy when Daley was the subject of some rough Twitter messages, which resulted in police arresting a 17-year-old boy in Weymouth, Dorset and a 28-year-old professional footballer for publishing offensive messages.
Back at Aquatics Center on the last Friday of the Olympics for the men's 10m event, Daley initially gave his fans worries about a poor performance in the preliminary round where he was ranked 15th of 18 qualifying divers for the semi-final with 448.45 points (David Boudia, 18). A much better performance in the semifinals the following morning left Daley in fourth with 521.10 points, behind Qiu Bo at 563.55, Lin Yue at 541.80, and Boudia at 531.15. The final round begins in dramatic form when Daley's star status almost causes its destruction - a large number of cameras flicker when he dives distract him and he scores only 75 points; protests to the referee resulted in him being allowed to retake the dives, when he scored 91.80. At the start of the final round of diving in an enticing contest, Daley led more than Qiu Bo and David Boudia by 0.15 points, but Daley's final dives had a difficulty of only 3.3 while his rivals both scored 3.6 times, and Daley won a bronze medal with 556.95 points while Boudia won gold with 568.65 points and Qiu Bo won silver with 566.85 points.

Although the show received a very negative critical response, it still got the biggest ratings on each of Saturday's five broadcast seasons, and was updated for the second season in 2014. Daley was warned by British Swimming chief executive David Sparkes who took part in the series at risk damaging his chances of winning an Olympic gold medal in the future.
At the British Gas Diving Championships held at his Plymouth pool on February 8-10, Daley competed in a 10-meter individual event, which he won with 501.00 points, ahead of James Denny at 374.90 points and Daniel Goodfellow at 340, 25 points. Daley does not compete in the 10m synchro platform event, as his colleague Peter Waterfield loses funds after the Olympics, and his front sync partners have not been determined yet.
Daley's participation in competitive dives in 2013 was severely curtailed by injuries in May. In April he won the 10m competition at Edinburgh's feet from the World Series of Diving, but while later training for the Dive Grand Prix event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Daley injured his elbow and was forced to withdraw from the Fort Lauderdale competition and the next DWS Event in Mexico.
