Uriah Smock House
Uriah Smock Farm is part of a property known as "Homestead Farm". It belonged to Uriah's father, John H. Smock. In February 1810, John H. Smock bought two fields adjacent to 167 hectares of land in Freehold Township from his father, Hendrick Smock, for $ 7,000. The land where Uriah Smock's house was then standing had been bought by Hendrick of George Smock in January 1810.
The exact date of the Smock house construction can not be obtained through documentary research. Judging by the architectural style and existing historical information, this house can be estimated to date from 1830 to before 1848. It appears to have been built by John H. Smock (1781-1865) and his son Uriah Smock (1815-1881). Given the age of John (49) in 1830 it is possible that the house was older than that year and rebuilt or completely rebuilt with details of the Greek Awakening when that style became fashionable. It is also possible that Smock lived elsewhere until deciding to build a house on the farm. Sources placed John H. Smock in Freehold Township during this period, including the record he served as a deacon in the Dutch Reformed Church and deadly from 1810 to 1816 and the record of the liberation of a slave, Betty Thomas, in 1825. The houses of popular revival styles during this period in the township.

During Uriah Smock's tenure at the property, he farms 100 hectares and has between 37 and 50 additional non-essential hectares. He knew to harvest and send Marl from his field. He was recorded in the agricultural census with horses, cattle, and pigs, among other farm animals, a mixture of wheat, mostly corn, and many bushels of Irish potatoes. He keeps an apple orchard of 250 trees and produces garden vegetables. His property is now largely a Lexington Development built around 2000. The Smock Home is maintained as part of an agreement with Marlboro Township.
