Ecological Reserves Edit
Robson Bight (Michael Bigg) The Ecological Reserve was founded in 1982 as a refuge for killer whales. The area, 10 km southeast of Telegraph Cove and 40 km from Port McNeill, British Columbia, is restricted. Access by boat or land is prohibited. The Robson Bight Warden program is operated by the Cetus Research and Conservation Society. This program educates visitors to an area about Ecological Reserves and asks visitors to stay outside the Ecological Reserve boundary. The Reserve extends 1 km offshore from markers at both ends of the Reserve. The total reserve area, including the highlands and the coast, is 5,460 hectares. It's named after killer whale researcher Michael Bigg.

Naming Edit
Robson Bight was named for Commander Lieutenant Charles Rufus Robson of the HMS Forward warship who died in Victoria, British Columbia on November 5, 1861 from the fall of the horse after a laudable career.
Spill Heap Edit
On August 20, 2007, a barge carrying vehicles and forestry equipment lost 11 equipment within the boundaries of the protected area. On April 18, 2008, the British Columbia Ministry of the Environment announced that the federal and provincial governments would bear the cost of saving the equipment. The equipment, which is 350 m below the surface and contains 10,000 liters of diesel, was successfully restored on May 20, 2009 by first circling a tanker truck with yellow containers to prevent fuel loss and then raise it with a crane to floating barges.
