Myles Standish State Forest is a state forest located in the town of Plymouth and Carver in southeastern Massachusetts, about 45 miles (70 km) south of Boston. This is the largest publicly owned recreation area in this part of Massachusetts and is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).

The forests are part of the Atlantic pine cork coastal ecoregion and consist mostly of pine and forest bushes - at 26 square miles (67 km 2 ), one of the largest forests north of Long Island. The forest surrounds 16 lakes and ponds, including some ecologically significant coastal ponds.

Deer
Activities and facilities Edit
Recreational uses include swimming, hunting, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and picnicking. Daily use areas are found in Higher Education Pools and Hearing Pools. Hunting is allowed during the season, and two Wildlife Management Areas within the forest are filled with birds in October and November. In summer, the park offers interpretive programs, such as beach walks and cranberry crackling.
Trajectory Edit
This forest offers a 15-mile (24 km) paved bicycle path, a thirty-five mile (56 km) horse trajectory, and a thirteen-mile (21 km) hiking trail. The "Bicycle Trails of Carver" is included in the Massachusetts Department of Travel and Tourism travel of 1000 great places in Massachusetts.
Camping Edit
Camping is offered in five locations, four of which are located in the pond: Curlew Pool, Hearing Pool, Swimming Fee, Barrett Pool. Part of the Cost Pool area is set aside for horse riding.

Scouting Edit
Cachalot Scout Reservation, a Scout camp, covers 880 acres (360Ã, ha) around Five Mile Pond adjacent to Myles Standish State Forest. Camp Squanto is also located within Myles Standish State Forest like Camp Wind-in-the-Pines, a girl scout camp.
Prison
A state prisons, MCI - Plymouth, is also located at the Myles Standish State Forest.
In the news
On May 14, 1977, according to a Plymouth Police Department note, Eric H. Anderson Jr. killed Ruth Masters (nÃÆ' à © e Ruth Rydberg), a teacher near Hanson, Massachusetts, as she rode her bike alone on a secluded street in the Park. He was later found guilty and sentenced to life in prison at Maine State Prison in Warren, Maine.
