Plymouth Rock Studios is a proposed film and television production studio in Massachusetts. The studio already has an expired option to purchase Waverly Oaks Golf Club in Plymouth as a $ 650 million, 1,260,000 square foot (117,000 m 2 ) development site that was originally planned to be completed in 2010. Proposals including fourteen stages of 10-acre sound (40,000 m 2 ) back lots, versatile theaters, hotels and offices. The original proposed location for the studio complex is located in South Plymouth, near the Bourne and Wareham city strips, but was rejected because of the wrong title of the land.

The studio's construction is planned to begin in July 2009, but was postponed indefinitely in November 2009 when construction funding fell for weeks before a planned placement.

History

Packages and studio facilities

The future home of Plymouth Rock Studios was first proposed in early 2008. A first site chosen in South Plymouth, outside Bourne Road, was abandoned when title issues threatened to delay construction indefinitely. Soon a new plan - on the golf course site at Long Pond Road (Waverly Oaks Golf Course), was announced.

In 2011, the facility no longer has any options on the Waverly property and its owners are trying to develop a residential community.

Local Support

The citizens of Plymouth strongly voted on May 10, 2008 to support the studio. Question 3 is a non-binding referendum used to evaluate whether Plymouth voters support the Plymouth Rock Studios plan built in their city. Voting supports with 8,530 votes yes and 1,118 no votes. On October 27, 2008, voting by members present at the Plymouth meeting endorsed zoning and tax relief articles for Plymouth Rock Studios.

The "Hollywood East" sign

In May 2008, Plymouth Rock Studios licensed the rights to a Hollywood iconic icon from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The studio plans to set up a "Hollywood East" sign in the Plymouth area to accompany the studio. The temporary installation of the sign, standing 5 feet (1.5 m) tall and 45 feet (14 m) across, at Plymouth Courthouse was inaugurated in July 2008, but was quickly erased after various groups filed an objection.
