East Bridgewater is a city in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population is 13,794 at the 2010 census.

Histori
The land to be East Bridgewater was first inhabited by Europeans in 1630 as a result of the Plymouth and Duxbury plantations. It is part of Olde Bridgewater, as "East Parish" which was founded in 1723, until it was officially separated from Bridgewater and established on 14 June 1823.
The city is located in the northern part of the Taunton River, and has an economy that is primarily based on agriculture, although industrial development is followed. Iron worked in the city providing guns and cannons for the Colonial army during the American Revolution. There is more housing construction in the late 19th and early 20th centuries along the rail and railroads of society. The famous bank robber Jack Turner had a brother who owned a house in East Bridgewater in the mid-19th century. It is widely believed that Turner had left his fortune there before he was wrongly shot by Union agents outside Richmond, Virginia in 1864. Today, East Bridgewater is known as the residential community.

Geography
According to the US Census Bureau, the city has a total area of ââ17.5 square miles (45 km 2 ), where 17.2 square miles (45 km 2 ) is ground and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km 2 ), or 1.49%, is water. East Bridgewater put 214 out of 351 communities in the Commonwealth in terms of land area, and fifteen of the twenty-seven Plymouth County communities. The city is bordered by Whitman to the north, Hanson to the east, Halifax to the southeast, Bridgewater to the south, West Bridgewater to the west, and Brockton to the northwest. Downtown Bridgewater is located twenty-seven miles southeast of Boston.
East Bridgewater is a typical community of Southeast Massachusetts, with ponds, forests, and rivers around town. The Matfield River enters the city through Bridgewater, branching out to the River Satucket and Poor Meadow Brook. Robbins Pond, the largest water body in town, is located in the southeast corner of the city. Duck sightings with large proportions near the Robbin Pool have been reported, but never confirmed. The Beaver Brook Beagle Club, a large forest area, is located in the northwest corner of the city.
Demographics
In the 2000 census, there were 12,974 people, 9,034 households, and 3,392 families living in the city. Population density was 741.4 people per square mile (290.6/km ò). There are 4,427 housing units with an average density of 256.8 per square mile (99.1/kmò). City's racial makeup is 96.91% White, 0.99% African American, 0.17% Native Americans, 0.48% Asia, 0.03% Pacific Island, 0.33% of other races, and 1.09 % of two or more races. Hispanic or Latin of any race is 0.75% of the population.
There were 4,344 households in which 39.8% had children under 18 living with them, 64.7% were married couples living together, 9.9% had non-husbands female households, and 21.9% is not family. 17.4% of all households are individual and 6.8% have a living person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.95 and the average family size was 3.35.
In the city, the population is spread by 27.8% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% years or more. The mean age is 36 years. For every 100 women, there are 95.8 men. For every 100 women age 18 and over, there are 92.7 men.
The average income for households in the city is $ 60,311, and the average income for families is $ 67,307. Men have an average income of $ 47,370 compared to $ 30,602 for women. The per capita income for the city is $ 23,532. About 2.4% of families and 4.1% of the population are below the poverty line, including 5.0% of those under the age of 18 and 6.7% of those aged 65 and older. An average house in East Bridgewater has 6.2 rooms and a 36 year old with a value of $ 172,200. 82% of the population owns the residence, 18% rent. 1% of the vacant housing space.
Statistically, East Bridgewater ranks 144th of 351 communities in the Commonwealth in terms of population, and 134 in terms of population density. The population is between average and median, and its density is just below average. In Plymouth County, the city ranks fifteenth of 27 cities by population, and twelve according to population density.
Government
At the national level, East Bridgewater is part of the 9th congress district in Massachusetts, and has been represented since 2001 by Stephen Lynch. The senior (Class II) member of the state of the United States Senate, elected in 2012, is Elizabeth Warren. The junior senator (Class I), elected in 2013, is Ed Markey.
At the state level, regions 2, 3 and 4 East Bridgewater are represented by Geoff Diehl at the Massachusetts House of Representatives as part of the Third Plymouth district, which includes Abington and Whitman cities. Precinct 1 East Bridgewater is represented by Michele DuBois as part of the Plymouth Tenth district, which includes the town of Brockton and the town of West Bridgewater. The city is represented in the Massachusetts Senate as part of two districts: by Michael Brady in Plymouth Second and the Bristol district, which includes Brockton, Halifax, Hanover, Hanson, Whitman and parts of Easton; and by Walter F. Timilty in the districts of Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth, covering all or part of Avon, Braintree, Canton, Easton, Milton, Randolph, Sharon, Stoughton and West Bridgewater. The town is guarded by the Fourth Barracks (Middleborough) of the D Police Force of the State of Massachusetts.
East Bridgewater is organized at the local level by an open city government meeting, headed by a city administrator and a selection board. The City operates the police and the fire department itself; the police department is headquartered adjacent to the town hall, downtown, and the fire headquarters are just south of Route 18. Firefighters have an ambulance service that takes patients to the nearby Brockton Health Care Hospital, the Steward Good Samaritan Medical Hospital Center and the South Beach. The post office is located west of downtown, and handles the whole city. East Bridgewater Public Library is located in a historic building along Route 18 in the city center; this is part of the Southeast Area Internet Service Area Library network (SAL). The city also operates two parks near the city center, and has its own public works department.
Education
East Bridgewater has its own school system for about 2,500 students in the city. The Central School (which, as the name implies, is just west of town hall in the city center) serves students from pre-kindergarten through to second grade. Gordon W. Mitchell School, located east of downtown, caters for third- to sixth grade students. East Bridgewater High School is located east of the town hall, and serves seventh to twelfth grade students.
In addition to public schools, high school students can attend Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School in South Easton for free. There are also private schools in neighboring communities in the north and south, and the city is the location of South Metro Academy School, high school and special high school. The city is located near Massasoit Community College at Brockton and Bridgewater State University.
Transportation
Route 18 is the main north-south route through the city, passing through the city center. Route 106 also passes from east to west through the southern part of the city, and Route 104 clamps the southern corner of the city before ending on Route 106 near the Halifax line. Route 27 also pinches the northeast corner of the city, and Route 14 passes through this part of town too. There is no highway in town; Route 24 passes the neighboring towns to the west.
The Middleborough-Lakeville line span short of the MBTA commuter rail passing through the western part of town. There are stops near Bridgewater and Brockton, and stops along the Kingston-Route 3 line at Hanson and Halifax. There is no airport in town; the nearest national air service is Logan International Airport in Boston.
