Holiday Inn Express is a moderately priced hotel chain within the InterContinental Hotels Group brand group. As an "express" hotel, their focus is to offer limited services and reasonable prices. Standard facilities lean towards the comfortable and practical that caters to business travelers and short term stay. As of September 2016, there are 2,469 Holiday Inn Express hotels featuring over 240,000 rooms worldwide.
The Holiday Inn Express concept is intended to target the "upper economic" market segment, offering limited services, inexpensive lodging.
In Europe, these hotels are known as Express by Holiday Inn , but these variations are removed during the Holiday Inn Global Holiday Launch announced in 2007.

Histori
In 1991, the first Holiday Inn Express location opened, with three hotels opened in the United States. The plan at the time called for 250 sites opened in 1995.
In 1996, the location of Europe's first brand opened in Scotland.
Marketing
Starting in 1998, Holiday Inn Express started an advertising campaign called "Stay Smart" advertising featuring ordinary people who achieve superior performance, such as avoiding nuclear disaster or performing like a rock star. When asked if they are professional or not, they will link their expertise with them there with a reply: "No, but I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express last night!" These ads have received positive reviews, and have been so successful they have crossed into popular culture, which has been featured in late night comedy jokes and political cartoons. Ads currently show comedians Rob Riggle.

Properties
The typical Holiday Inn Express hotel is built from the company's prototype architecture, and tends to comprise 60-80 rooms, with a mix of suites and standard rooms on North American properties. Since the chain has experienced tremendous growth, the majority of new or recently renovated Holiday Inn Express hotels.
The original Holiday Inn Express property is a no-frills hotel offering only continental breakfast and exercise room. But the new hotels do indeed feature most of the amenities of the upscale Holiday Inn brands, such as restaurants and bars, conference rooms, and even a fitness center complete with swimming pool. The main differentiation is location, with express properties typically found on the outskirts of the city and next to highways, whereas the upscale Holiday Inn has been placed in urban areas (including downtown) and often near tourist attractions.
