The Express is a free daily newspaper, distributed in the Washington metropolitan area. This is a publication of The Washington Post . By 2017, it has the second-highest circulation in the District of Columbia after The Washington Post, and is read by 239,500 people every day.

History and operations
The Express has been published daily in tabloid format since it began publishing on August 4, 2003. It is distributed by hawkers on Metro Washington stations and on newspaper racks at other locations throughout the metropolitan area of ââWashington. Owned and printed by Washington Post Company, owner of The Washington Post, owned by Jeff Bezos through a parent company called Nash Holdings LLC. By 2012, it has a daily print circulation of 180,000. The Express is published by Express Publications Company, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Washington Post Company.
Express written and edited from the Washington Post office at Franklin Square in Washington, D.C. Before 2010, it was produced from an office in Arlington, Virginia. Printing newspapers requires more than 700 tons of newspaper every year.
Express was written and edited by a staff of 23, up from 13 in 2003.

Despite having the same owner as The Washington Post , some of the stories are difficult to write by Posting staff.
