Histori

Occupied by native populations for thousands of years, during historic times, the modern Red Bank area is a Latin-speaking Latin American region of Lenboro, also called Delaware by the British. Lenape lived in the area between the Navesink River and the Shrewsbury River in the area they call Navarumsunk. Native Americans traded freely with European settlers from Britain and the Dutch Republic in the mid-seventeenth century, who bought land in the area.

Originally part of "Shrewsbury Towne", Red Bank was named in 1736, when Thomas Morford sold Joseph French "much more than three acres on the west side of the highway that went to the red bank." Red Bank was completed by British colonizers beginning in the 17th century and becoming a shipbuilding center. Its population grew rapidly after 1809, when regularly scheduled passenger ships were erected to serve routes to Manhattan.

In 1844, Red Bank has become a commercial and manufacturing center, focusing on textiles, tanning, feathers, and other items for sale in Manhattan. With the dredging of the Navesink River around 1845, Red Bank became the port where the steamers transport commuters to work in Manhattan. The Red Bank grew in size as a result of this, as well as the effects of railroad construction in the city by Raritan and Delaware Bay Railroad in 1860.

During the 20th century, Red Bank was a strong cultural, economic and political center in Monmouth County, hampered by an economic recession that began in 1987. During this time, the Red Bank economy, largely based on retail trade, was in decline, due to real estate scandals. Local experts and city planners call the city "The Dead Bank".

Beginning in about 1991, under the Development of New Jersey and Redevelopment Law, the official borough of the establishment of RiverCenter Red Bank to manage redevelopment in what is designated a special repair district. RiverCenter maintains authority over the management and rebuilding of the key designated business district, which includes Broad Street from the post office to Marine Park and from Maple Avenue to a block east of Broad Street. A number of city rebuilding projects have taken place, including the improvement of distinctive pedestrian-friendly walkways, sidewalks and lighting, coherent design plans for Main Street and other major highways, improved landscaping with landscaping, and similar projects.

The district as originally proposed is larger, to include a commercial area west of Maple Avenue, including antique buildings, The Galleria, and Shrewsbury Avenue. However, some property owners in this area refused to pay a special assessment. Plans for the larger districts go forward but the opposition becomes tighter. The proposed district was changed to exclude opponents, and the adopted district stopped at Maple Avenue.
