Andrei Valeryevich Arlovski (Belarusian: ?????? ????? '???? ???????? , Belarusian Pronunciation: Ã, [an'dr? j va'l? r? vit? ar'l? wski] , born February 4, 1979), dubbed The Pitbull, is a mixed Belarussian artist, actor and former UFC Heavyweight Champion. He also competed for Strikeforce, WSOF, Suffering, EliteXC, ONE FC and M-1 Challenge. In July 2017, Arlovski was ranked # 13 in the official UFC heavyweight rankings. He currently fights in the UFC Heavy Class division.

Arlovski was born in Babruisk, Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (now Belarus). When he is younger, bullies often scold him and hit him. In 1994, when he was 14 years old, he finally had enough and started lifting weights to wear his muscles and, he hoped, to help him deal with this bully. Arlovski only took martial arts at the age of 16 years in Karate after previously attracted to soccer. It's an interest in personal fitness and conditioning that causes Arlovski to be interested in combat sports like Sambo, Judo and Kickboxing.
Applying to the police academy in Minsk, Arlovski combines his interest in a law enforcement career with the increasing participation of his martial arts by taking a required police defense course at Sambo and rapidly demonstrating himself as a highly competent competing Sambo. In 1999, Arlovski won the European Youth Sambo Championships and the World Youth Championships. Not long after that, Arlovski became the first Master of Sports and then International Master of Sports. He picked up a silver medal at the Sambo World Cup and another silver medal in the World Sambo Championship.
Arlovski began to take a greater interest in other martial arts, studied kickboxing and developed his striking skills to complement his Sambo grappling skills.

Mixed martial arts career
At the age of 20, Arlovski began his professional career at MMA at Mix Fight M-1 in St Petersburg, Russia on April 9, 1999. It was a pretty unfortunate start, losing KO KO to Viacheslav Datsik. Not hindered, Arlovski returned in 2000 to M-1 Global at the European Championships, taking the heavyweight crown with a victory surrender and a knockout victory.
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Arlovski made his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut at UFC 28 , beating Aaron Brink with submission. He was then thrown against the top opposition, losing to UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriguez and heavyweight heavyweight Pedro Rizzo. Despite the early defeats, winning over British Cage Rage Light Heavy Day champion Ian Freeman and future IFL Light Heavyweight candidate Vladimir Matyushenko, pushing Arlovski back to the UFC elite.
In 2004, a motorcycle accident injury suffered by UFC Heavyweight Class Champion Frank Mir led to the creation of a temporary heavyweight title. It was decided that the top two heavyweights would meet to announce the interim champions and on 5 February 2005, at UFC 51, Arlovski faced former heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia. In the fight, Arlovski finally connects with the overhand right and drops Sylvia. On the ground, Arlovski followed up with an Achilles key that forced Sylvia to come out in 47 seconds from the first round, making Arlovski the new UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion.
Arlovski went on to defend his temporary title on June 4, 2005, at UFC 53 , against Justin Eilers. Arlovski won the battle by TKO in the first round. After the fight, it was revealed that Eilers suffered extensive injuries in this match including a severely damaged nose, two broken hands and complete ACL tears.
In October 2005, Arlovski once again defended his title at UFC 55 against principal competitor Paul Buentello. Arlovski got rid of Buentello in 15 seconds from the opening round. On August 12, 2005, UFC announced that they now recognize Arlovski as an unnecessary heavyweight champion, as Frank Mir has not been fully rehabilitated from his motorcycle accident.
In a rematch with Team Sylvia at UFC 59 on April 15, 2006, Arlovski beat Sylvia with a right-handed blow early in the first half. Sylvia was able to protect herself and soon recovered. While Arlovski tried to finish Sylvia with the right lead, Sylvia retaliated with a short right blow to her chin, dropping Arlovski onto the mat. Sylvia followed up with a blow on the ground until referee Herb Dean halted the match at 2:43 in the first half.
The rubber match between Tim Sylvia and Arlovski took place on July 8, 2006, at UFC 61 . In what turns into a 5-round atrack battle, neither the fighter is able to defeat the other, or even land a really significant blow. In the end Sylvia won the battle with a unanimous decision. He later discovered that during the fight, Arlovski had been significantly injured by a second-kicked-up kick that prevented him from kicking his own shot or making a strike. When confronted by a reporter about the injury, Arlovski avoids responding directly and will simply say "I do not want to talk about my injuries or look for other reasons." Not long after it was revealed Sylvia suffered an injury when she collapsed in a hotel room and after a hospital examination, doctors found a concussion without being detected after the game.
Arlovski made his next appearance on December 30, 2006, at UFC 66 against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt MÃÆ'árcio Cruz. After being lowered, he kicked Cruz on the shoulder (which was legal) but it was mistaken for a head kick (which was illegal) by referee Herb Dean. When the referee intervened, he decided, because of Cruz's insistence, to allow the two fighters to remain on the ground as opposed to standing them, as is common practice. After that, Arlovski hit Cruz with a hard blow to his chin, then went on defeating Cruz with a hammer until the fight was stopped.
Arlovski fought against the PRIDE veteran and twice world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu FabrÃÆ'cio Werdum at UFC 70 and won by a unanimous decision. Both fighters kept their distance for most of the fight, causing the referee to tell them early in the third half that he would remove a point from the first fighter to retreat in the round. Although Arlovski won the battle with a unanimous decision, many of the taunts could be heard from the crowd. After the fight, Arlovski apologized to fans for not fighting for fifteen full minutes.
After 11 months of inactivity, Arlovski made his return to the octagon for the last time at UFC 82 and defeated Jake O'Brien by a TKO in the second round. With this victory, Arlovski gave O'Brien his first MMA loss. This is Arlovski's last fight about his UFC contract.
Arlovski left the UFC with a 10-4 record, including going 3-2 in title fight.
Entertainment Suffering
Upon leaving the UFC, Arlovski signed a contract with the newly created MMA-Promotional Affliction and participated in their inaugural event <1> Suffering: Prohibited on July 19, 2008. He fought and defeated high class heavyweight fighters and former class booths weight IFL-out Ben Rothwell by a knockout in the final round of the fight, ending Rothwell's 13-game winning streak and giving him his first defeat in over 3 years.
Originally scheduled to face the former UFC Heavyweight Champion and upper-class heavyweight Josh Barnett in the main event on the second Parade of Suffering, Suffering: The Day of Reckoning, on October 11, 2008, the event was rescheduled and Arlovski would instead be matched by the last champion IFL Heavyweight Roy Nelson at EliteXC: Heat on October 4, 2008, in Sunrise, Florida in joint promotion with EliteXC. Arlovski won the fight through a knockout in the second round and in the process became the only person who had completed Nelson in his MMA career at the time.
In January 2009, Arlovski faced the last PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko at Suffering: Day of Reckoning . Arlovski looked well-prepared and focused but despite an encouraging initial effort, Arlovski lost the battle through a knockout in the opening round after jumping on a very long knee and caught with an exaggerated right blow.
Strikeforce
On 6 June 2009, Arlovski fought and came heavyweight Brett Rogers at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields. Arlovski lost the battle through the TKO in the opening round. As a result, Arlovski has started training with renowned MMA coach Greg Jackson in October 2009. Arlovski is a participant featured in Strikeforce: Emelianenko vs. Rogers where he was mobbed by a crowd of Chicago local fans. Arlovski signed for Strikeforce and against former EliteXC heavyweight champion AntÃÆ'Ã'nio Silva on May 15, 2010, at Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery. after 3 rounds of hard hit blows from both and no one gives up on each one, Arlovski loses by a unanimous decision.
Arlovski was defeated by Sergei Kharitonov through a knockout on February 12, 2011, as part of the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament. It was his fourth successive defeat, three of which were through a knockout. On February 17, 2011, Arlovski posted a video on his website that he spoke for over an hour, repeatedly saying that he really would not retire and end his career in this way. Arlovski indicated there was a situation with his coach advising him to retire; However, Greg Jackson opposed his resignation. Arlovski dedicated himself to training exclusively with Greg Jackson in New Mexico to refocus his MMA career and make the necessary changes to get back on track.
ProElite
After several months of grueling training schedules in New Mexico with Greg Jackson and the likes of Jon Jones, Shane Carwin and Travis Browne, Arlovski became the title of ProElite 1 on August 27th at Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii against Ray Lopez. Arlovski was won by a TKO in the third round after dominating Lopez throughout the fight.
Arlovski is dealing with a veteran of more than 300 Travis Fulton matches at ProElite 2 in November, serving as a co-main event. Arlovski won the battle with a KO head kick in the last second lap of the third round. It was a KO that caused Fulton, who was never eliminated, to regain consciousness about 5 minutes after the fight was stopped. Fulton then confessed to Arlovski in the dressing room that he had never been hit hard in all his 300 fights.
ONE Fighting Championship
In mid-July 2012, it was announced that Arlovski had signed a contract with the ONE Fighting Championship based in Asia. Arlvoski was originally scheduled to fight Soa Palelei but Soa Palelei was later replaced with Team Sylvia. Promotion quickly announced that Arlovski would face Team Sylvia in his debut, marking the fourth time the two fighters were facing each other.
Arlovski and Sylvia face off at ONE Fighting Championship: Pride of a Nation on August 31, 2012, in Manila. The battle between Arlovski and Team Sylvia ends with no contest due to an illegal football kick by Arlovski. According to ONE FC rules, a football kick is only valid if the referee clears the fighter to do so after deciding the grounded fighter can still defend themselves intelligently. Arlovski did not receive such permission, the kick was considered illegal. Four days later One FC eliminated this limitation. Changes to this rule, if made earlier, will result in Arlovki's winner by TKO. Arlovski had dropped Tim Sylvia with a blow before he landed an illegal kick that caused the referee to stop the fight.
World Series of Fighting
Arlovski titled the debut event of the World Series of Fighting against fellow veteran Strikeforce Devin Cole on November 3, 2012, at the World Series of Fighting 1 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show is live on NBC Sports. He won the battle through TKO in the first round.
Arlovski against Anthony Johnson at the main event in the World Series of Fighting 2 on March 23, 2013. He lost the battle through a unanimous decision. The controversy arose after the fight when it was revealed that some laps exceeded the five minute deadline. The blow that is believed to have damaged Arlovski's jaws touched down when his time was up.
Arlovski subsequently replaces Anthony Johnson who was injured against Mike Kyle at WSOF 5 on September 14, 2013. He won the battle through a unanimous decision.
Independent promotion
Arlovski faces veteran Bellator Mike Hayes at Fight Nights: Battle of Moscow 9 on December 16, 2012, in Moscow, Russia. He won the battle through a unanimous decision.
Arlovski is also scheduled to fight 2 ADCC World Champion wrestling submissions and veteran of more than 60 Jeff Monson fights in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on February 2, 2013, but the event is postponed.
Arlovski against Andreas Kraniotakes at Fight Nights - Battle in Minsk on 29 November 2013, and Arlovski won the battle through TKO in the second round.
Return to UFC
On April 24, 2014, it was confirmed by several MMA media sites that Arlovski had been granted his release from WSOF to return to UFC. The former heavyweight champion against Brendan Schaub at UFC 174 on 14 June 2014. Arlovski won on his return to UFC, defeating Schaub through a separate decision.
It was announced that Arlovski will face AntÃÆ'Ã'nio Silva in a rematch on 13 September 2014, at UFC Fight Night 51. Despite being a heavy-duty underdog, Arlovski won the battle through knockout in the first half, having landed twice in a row. the hand that dropped Silva and the next hammer on the ground with Silva unable to defend himself. This victory also won Arlovski's first bonus award Night Performance .
Arlovski faces Travis Browne on May 23, 2015, at UFC 187. Despite being a heavy underdog and beaten in the first round, Arlovski stunned Browne several times throughout the opening minutes, and eventually won the battle through TKO in the first round. After a fight, Joe Rogan reveals a comment that Arlovski almost withdrew from the fight with a calf injury during practice. The win also gave Arlovski the first bonus award Fight of the Night .
Arlovski faced Frank Mir on September 5, 2015, at UFC 191, winning a round decision (29-28, 29-28, and 30-27) in a lot of battles, including President UFC White Fund, Mir thought.
Arlovski again faces Stipe Miocic on 2 January 2016, at UFC 195. He was defeated through TKO in the first round.
Arlovski faces Alistair Redeem on May 8, 2016, at UFC Fight Night 87. After a round-trip round, Arlovski lost the war through TKO in the second round.
Arlovski next faces Josh Barnett on September 3, 2016, at UFC Fight Night 93. He lost the battle through a third round surrender, resulting in the loss of his first MMA professional career. Both participants were awarded the Fight of the Night for their performances.

Personal life
Arlovski lives in chicago with his wife, son, and Maximus bull. He is an Orthodox Christian. Arlovski made a public service announcement against a dog battle featuring Maximus and called him inhuman and torture. Arlovski says he chose his nickname The Pitbull for the positive qualities this dog possesses.

Movie and TV career
The debut of Arlovski's film was at 8 Diamonds in 2006. She starred in the Universal Soldier: Regeneration in 2009, along with Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. In the film, he plays "NGU", a new generation of UniSol in the role of the "bad guys" main. The film was released directly to the video on February 2, 2010, in the United States.
