Holderness is a town in Grafton County, New Hampshire, United States. The population is 2,108 at the 2010 census. The farm and resort, Holderness is home to the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center and is located in Squam Lake. The hiding place is also home to the Holderness School, a boarding school for joint educational preparation.

The Squam Lakes is a trading route for the Abenaki Indians and early European settlers, who travel the Squam River to the Pemigewasset River, then to the Merrimack River and the seaside. In 1751, Thomas Shepard petitioned on behalf of 64 grant recipients to the Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth for 6 square miles on the Pemigewasset River. The government council was accepted, and the city was named Robert Darcy, the 4th Earl of Holderness. The French and Indian wars, however, prevented the settlement until after the Fall of Quebec 1759. The land was regretted as New Holderness in 1761 for a group of New England families, and first settled in 1763. As a half-town owner, Samuel Livermore intends to create in New Holderness a large patterned plantation after people from the English countryside. In 1790, the city had 329 inhabitants, and in 1816, "New" was omitted from its name.
Resilience becomes a farming and fishing community, except for the "business area or flat iron" located on the falling Squam River which drops about 112 meters before meeting the Pemigewasset River. There are 1,208 units of homes with an average density of 39.8 per square mile (15.4/km ²). City's racial makeup is 97.88% White, 0.47% African American, 0.05% Native Americans, 0.36% Asian, 0.10% of other races, and 1.14% of two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race is 0.41% of the population.
There were 768 households out of which 30.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.2% were married couples living together, 5.9% had non-husbands female households, and 28.9% were not family. 21.5% of all households consist of individuals and 7.3% have someone living alone 65 or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.91.
In the city, the population is spread by 24.4% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 31.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% years or more. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 women, there are 95.9 men. For every 100 women age 18 and over, there are 98.8 men.
The average income for households in the city is $ 47,895, and the average income for families is $ 55,526. Men have an average income of $ 36,500 compared to $ 26,116 for women. The per capita income for the city is $ 27,825. About 2.8% of families and 4.9% of the population are below the poverty line, including 9.2% of those under the age of 18 and 4.0% of those aged 65 and older.
